Flute, Music Theory
Starting the flute in 2014 at the age of 13, Julien discovered a new found liking to the flute and music. Hence he started private flute lessons in 2015. In the same year, he clinched a distinction in Grade 5 Flue performance under the tutelage of Miss Ke Yi Chun, who is a graduate of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.
In 2016 Julien took part in the flute festival, intermediate category ensemble competition and clinched 1st place. In 2017, he completed his Grade 8 in Flute Performance under the tutelage of Miss Wang Tong. He was also admitted into the Singapore National Youth Orchestra, who is currently under the baton of Maestro Joshua Tan.
As an active member of the orchestra, Julien has been involved in major concerts with the SNYO, such as the joint concert with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra featuring Ray Chen on the violin in which Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2 was performed, the “Journey of Friendship” concert tour which was performed in Singapore, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and more recently “The Planets”.
Julien is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music Degree at the Yong siew toh Conservatory of Music, studying with Singapore Symphony Orchestra’s Associate Principal Flautist, Evgueni Brokmiller and Dr Cheryl Lim. Having great passion in chamber music and early music, Julien hopes to bring the gap between classical music and society closer and hopes to make classical music more valid in our ever-changing society.
Julien started coaching flute from year 2020, and he has experience coaching kids as well as adults.
