Have you always wanted to learn to play the electric guitar? You may be clueless as to what you should prepare before you learn guitar online. There are quite a lot of things to prepare, aside from the electric guitar itself. You can go to a guitar community and ask questions there, or you can hunt around for friends who play this musical instrument and get to know the details. Here, I have compiled a list of essential items as well as valuable tips to prepare. Whether you are just a new guitarist dipping your toes into the world of online guitar classes, or aim to be an expert guitarist who can perform on stage, this is the best all-in-one guide for newbies. So read on:
The amplifier: This is absolutely important as it is always the constant companion to the electric guitar. Without the amplifier, when you play on the guitar, there is not much sound emitting out from the instrument. A good amplifier helps to showcase the full sound potential from your guitar. It is not necessary to spend thousands of dollars if you are just starting out, for an amplifier. Talk to your local guitar shop owner to understand the range available. Try a few amplifiers across several price points. Assess the tone quality emitting out from the amp and match that to your comfortable budget.
The cable: With your new amplifier and electric guitar, you need a cable to link these two up. Without a cable, the amplifier does not work. There are different cable lengths available. Check out the measurement and measure that against the space which you will be doing your guitar practice sessions. It is always better to get a slightly longer cable that what you think you need, in case you move your practice space in the future.
The guitar strap: The electric guitar itself is a heavy musical instrument. You will need to get a guitar strap which holds its weight so that you can be hands free during breaks. These come in different colors, width and length. Some guitar shops also have customized guitar straps where you can choose the pattern of the strap or have your initials added.
The Tuner: As a new learner to any musical instrument, if you do not have any music background before you start to learn guitar online, you do not have perfect pitch or intonation. As such you will need a tuner to assist you in perfect pitching when you tune the guitar. Otherwise you will always need to rely on your guitar teacher to tune your guitar during weekly lessons. You may be practicing on your guitar in between lessons, with the musical instrument not perfectly tuned. So it is best to get your own tuner and learn to tune accordingly.
Guitar pick: A guitar pick is also known as the plectrum. This is very useful especially when you need to play many notes very fast. You get a louder volume when you use a guitar pick. The tone quality is also better. There are many different types of picks – they vary in the material used, the thickness, the shape, and the texture. All these impact on how you hold and play using it. So you should experiment with different picks to select the one that suits your playing style. Before you start your online guitar class, you should get a few guitar picks. These are rather small and many guitarists misplace them. So it is better to keep one or two spare ones on hand.
The Guitar Capo: The capo is actually a clamp which shortens the length of the guitar strings when it is clamped at the neck of the guitar. Esssentially by using this, you change the key of the song which you wish to play. As you expand your repertoire and go into more intermediate level songs, you will need to use a capo.

You can try to teach yourself to play the electric guitar without online lessons. First, you need to get a set of electric guitar with amplifier, a metronome. Next you can observe how other guitarists perform and try to emulate that. If you find that you cannot improve further, you can try face to face guitar classes or online guitar class.
Not everyone lives in a location with access to a great guitar teacher. May have come to rely on the internet to learn to play the electric guitar online with weekly lessons. So yes, it is possible to learn the electric guitar online.
If you are a beginner level student, half an hour to forty five minutes of daily practice is sufficient, in between your weekly online guitar classes. When you need to pick up more difficult playing techniques, or work through a performance level repertoire, you may need to extend your practice time to an hour or more per day.
Some prefer to start acoustic guitar classes first to get an understanding of how the guitar works, before progressing to online electric guitar lessons. The acoustic guitar is lighter than the electric guitar so beginners may prefer the former first. Others prefer to just go direct to their musical instrument of choice if it is the electric guitar. The playing style as well as the handling between both types of guitar is different.
